Why do injuries happen?

Dr. Jeremiah Jimerson

IT’S NOT JUST A MATTER OF TREATING SYMPTOMS, BUT SOLVING YOUR WHY

Far too many people waste time and money chasing symptoms. Getting adjustments, countless physical therapy hours, stretching and foam rolling, injections and surgeries while never getting true clarity about WHY their pain happened in the first place – this needs to STOP!

-Do you have pain that radiates into your buttock?

-Do you have pain that radiates into your leg or all the way into your foot?

You might be suffering from Sciatica or Sciatic Pain.

Lots of patients come into the office with a diagnosis of sciatica or sciatic neuritis. While this is a diagnosis, it’s not a very good diagnosis.

A diagnosis of sciatica basically states the obvious. You have pain radiating into your leg. Pretty obvious.

But the diagnosis of sciatica doesn’t really show you why you have pain radiating down your leg.

Dr. Jimerson has treated and resolved THOUSANDS of sciatic nerve pain cases in his Summerville and Charleston Chiropractic offices over the past 15 years with patients traveling as far as Mount Pleasant, Kiawah, North Charleston, James Island and even Myrtle Beach for treatments.

The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body (in girth). Its roughly the size of your thumb and it controls the sensory (feeling), motor (muscles) and reflex of your entire leg.

If you’ve read our nerve article, you already know that it only takes about the weight of a dime pressing on a nerve to cause it some dysfunction.

The sciatic nerve get pinched in multiple areas across the body. We’re going to discuss all of those possibilities.

You can get sciatic pain from a disc herniation, disc protrusion or a disc bulge. Those patients (in general) are going to notice extra sciatic pain radiating down the leg when they sit for prolonged periods due to the compression of the disc.

The pain may or may not be worse at night. If the sciatic pain is worse at night it is likely due to the soft tissue around the discs cooling and tightening at rest, placing even more pressure on the sciatic nerve.

The sciatic nerve can also get entrapped by the muscles that it dives through after it exits the spine. It can get stuck in the buttock muscles (piriformis), in the hamstring, calf muscles (soleus) and even in the ankle (tarsal tunnel).

Having just one of those entrapments or all of them can result in the radiating pain down the leg that we know as sciatica. (Sometimes it’s pressure on the nerve from the disc AND the muscles into the leg)

Another cause of sciatic nerve pain is from the SI or Sacroiliac joint. If you read our article on Sacroiliac dysfunction, you would see that it can actually cause radiating pain down the leg that mimics the sciatic nerve pain.

Patients can be diagnosed with Lumbar disc herniations or protrusions where it looks like the cause of the sciatic nerve pain is from the herniation, but they won’t respond to typical lumbar herniation treatments, leaving the patient still with radiating pain into the leg. Those cases are often SI joint dysfunction or nerve entrapments in the muscles going down the leg.

Treating symptoms is one thing, finding the root cause of those symptoms SOLVES the problem

The world of pain relief is filled with marketing and massive amounts of myopic thinking. This chiropractor says “a bone is out of place,” that physical therapy office says “just do this 10 pages of exercises” and often the medical approach is to medicate, inject, or cut – sadly, that’s the world that we live in and unlike this website it’s not all black and white.

The fact is, treating symptoms will never result in permanent relief. It’s like duct taping a leaky ceiling. It might look good for a hot minute, but it doesn’t take that long before you wish you hired a better contractor.

After being in the pain and performance world for 20 plus years, my focus today is providing immediate relief, but also being the detective that leaves no stone unturned of showing you how to keep it that way.

Dr. Jeremiah is my go to for my patients when all else fails

Dr. Robert Schoderbeck – Orthopedist

I know this sounds crazy… I will fly to Charleston to see him… hands down this guy is a healer

Mo Maynor

Dr. Jimerson is OUTSTANDING! As a clinician myself, I appreciate his direction and encouragement… but mostly the RESULTS!

Priscilla Nugent – Physical Therapist

Dr. Jimerson evaluates each sciatic case with a biomechanical examination to determine where the root cause of your leg pain is actually coming from.

He then determines if your pain is coming from the SI joint or from the muscles into your leg with a few simple tests.

From there he may utilize decompression or Active Release Technique, a patented advanced myofascial technique that releases scar tissue or adhesions around muscles, ligaments, tendons and around nerves.

He will also treat the nerve pain using his proprietary nerve pain technique that can resolve nerve pain within seconds as well as show you exercises and strategies to minimize the pain and rehabilitate the injury at home.

If you’ve tried every therapist in Charleston from Chiropractic, Massage Therapy, Acupuncture, Physical Therapy or even Surgery and Injections you may want to have Dr. Jimerson evaluate and treat your pain.

While Dr. Jimerson has been voted best chiropractor in Charleston, he doesn’t necessarily look at things from a chiropractic perspective and thus avoids unnecessary chiropractic adjustments and x-rays. It is this methodology and his ability to look at injuries from an outside the box perspective that Charleston Orthopedic Surgeons, Physical Therapists and other Chiropractors routinely refer complex and unfixable pain cases to him.
