Why do injuries happen?

Dr. Jeremiah Jimerson

IT’S NOT JUST A MATTER OF TREATING SYMPTOMS, BUT SOLVING YOUR WHY

Far too many people waste time and money chasing symptoms. Getting adjustments, countless physical therapy hours, stretching and foam rolling, injections and surgeries while never getting true clarity about WHY their pain happened in the first place – this needs to STOP!

Do you have muscle pain?

Have you been diagnosed with a pain that ends in “-itis” or “-osis”?

Are you ready to fix your muscle or tendon pain?

Tendinitis and Tendinosis are often used interchangeably. However tendinitis is typically more inflammatory as -itis refers to inflammation and -osis refers to scar tissue and adhesions.

Plantar fasciitis, Achilles Tendonitis, Lateral and Medial Epicondylitis, Adhesive Capsulitis, Dequervains Tenosynovitis, and Hip Bursitis are all just fancy ways of saying this or that muscle is inflamed or have scar tissue or adhesions.

One of the biggest common factors of all of these soft tissue injuries is the fact that they will have a tendency to be at their worst during periods of rest.

Soft tissue cools during rest periods and pain is inhibited more with movement. When muscles are in motion, the tissue is nice and warm and movement neurologically helps shut off pain.

When you are resting, sitting, sleeping or just not moving, the tissue cools down, pain is no longer turned off ( or down) and patients often notice that they will be more uncomfortable.

Injuries that have been labeled as inflammatory (-itis) still have a scar tissue or adhesion component of the injury that still needs to be resolved on top of the inflammation.

Dr. Jimerson has treated and resolved THOUSANDS of tendinitis and tendinosis cases at his Summerville and Charleston Chiropractic locations over the past 15 years.

One of the most important things in resolving tendinitis and tendinosis is figuring out the root cause of the injury in the first place or why it happened.

Figuring out the why often required a little detective work but injuries can be resolved far quicker and more effectively as well as permanently if you can figure out what went wrong in the first place.

Muscles become overworked and underpaid easily due to our daily habits and biomechanic resulting in injury and tendinitis and tendinosis diagnoses.

An easy way to look at it is to imagine the old Corona typewriters back in the day. You know those old-time typewriters?

So no one back then ever got carpal tunnel syndrome because of those old typewriters. They had a high amplitude. Meaning, if you wanted to type a letter you had to push the key down 1-2 inches. Resulting in a low frequency of typing. You just couldn’t type as fast on those old things.

So the muscles always had a moment to relax in between keys.

Now fast forward to today with our laptop and computer keyboard. Tiny amplitude. You barely have to push the key down to type your letter resulting in a high frequency movement. This means that people can type so quickly that the muscles involved never really get a moment to relax.

Muscles need to eat. If they are under constant tension, it starves them of their blood supply. To top it off, their aren’t able to get rid of their waste products. This results in scar tissue and adhesion build up in the muscles which results in injury. In this case around your wrist, leading to carpal tunnel syndrome.

We can apply this equation to almost all injuries to be able to predictably anticipate where adhesions or scar tissue develops and why.

Treating symptoms is one thing, finding the root cause of those symptoms SOLVES the problem

The world of pain relief is filled with marketing and massive amounts of myopic thinking. This chiropractor says “a bone is out of place,” that physical therapy office says “just do this 10 pages of exercises” and often the medical approach is to medicate, inject, or cut – sadly, that’s the world that we live in and unlike this website it’s not all black and white.

The fact is, treating symptoms will never result in permanent relief. It’s like duct taping a leaky ceiling. It might look good for a hot minute, but it doesn’t take that long before you wish you hired a better contractor.

After being in the pain and performance world for 20 plus years, my focus today is providing immediate relief, but also being the detective that leaves no stone unturned of showing you how to keep it that way.

Dr. Jeremiah is my go to for my patients when all else fails

Priscilla Nugent – Physical Therapist

Perhaps you spend a lot of your day on your computer resulting in scar tissue developing in the extensor muscle of your forearm. To stay healthy and active maybe you like to play tennis which involves those extensor muscles stretching and absorbing force from the impact of the ball and the racquet. Those muscles that have been tight from computer work will begin to develop micro tears due to lack of elasticity and soon you might develop lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow). You might wear an elbow brace when you play, which duct tapes the situation until it gets cranky and requires a shot from your friendly Charleston Orthopedic to calm down the pain but then you go back to playing and it’s only a short period of time before you begin to experience pain again. This is where you need to dial back your why you developed tendinitis, use a treatment like Active Release Technique, a patented advanced myofascial release technique designed to break down scar tissue and adhesions in muscles, tendons, ligaments and around nerves to break down scar tissue and adhesions. Formulate a plan through the day to stretch and move the muscles so you don’t continue developing scar tissue as well as determine if their were any other biomechanical issues that caused the injury in the first place. Treating symptoms can often be one of the reasons why you can see traditional Charleston Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, Physical Therapists, get Injections and Surgery and still not get resolution of symptoms. If you’re in Charleston and have pain or if you’ve tried every possible therapist in Charleston to solve your pain from Massage Therapy, Physical Therapy, Surgery and Injections, Acupuncture and traditional Chiropractic with limited or no success, we may be able to help. While Dr. Jimerson has been voted best chiropractor in Charleston, he doesn’t necessarily look at things from a chiropractic perspective and thus avoids unnecessary chiropractic adjustments and x-rays. It is this methodology and his ability to look at injuries from an outside the box perspective that Charleston Orthopedic Surgeons, Physical Therapists and other Chiropractors routinely refer complex and unfixable pain cases to him.
