Why do injuries happen?

Dr. Jeremiah Jimerson

IT’S NOT JUST A MATTER OF TREATING SYMPTOMS, BUT SOLVING YOUR WHY

Far too many people waste time and money chasing symptoms. Getting adjustments, countless physical therapy hours, stretching and foam rolling, injections and surgeries while never getting true clarity about WHY their pain happened in the first place – this needs to STOP!

Jack Nicklaus had it right when he said, “Professional golfers condition to play golf; amateur golfers play golf to condition.” That explains why 62 percent of amateurs will sustain a significant golf injury, typically because they’re out of shape, have poor swing mechanics, or don’t adequately warm up.

According to the British Journal of Sports Medicine 67.7% of amateur golfers and 90% of professional golfers will suffer a golf related injury at least once in their lifetime.

Charleston is home to some amazing golf courses and is one of the top locations for golf in South Carolina. With 7 renowned courses, there is no shortage of spectacular golf to enjoy.

It’s no wonder that we have golfers travel from as far as Kiawah and Atlanta to our office in Charleston to not only resolve their golf injuries, but to massively improve their golf performance as well.

One of the most common golf injuries is Golfer’s Elbow which is pain at the inside of the elbow. The technical term for Golfer’s elbow is Medial Epicondylitis which is characterized by painful inflammation of the forearm flexor tendons that all attach at the inside of the elbow.

Typical treatment is rest and ice (which means you don’t get to play golf for a while). If it’s not caught and treated early on it can mean a ruined golf season.

Dr. Jimerson has treated and successfully resolved thousands of Golfer’s elbows in the past 15 years in his Summerville and Charleston offices by treating the root cause of what creates inflammation of the inside aspect of the elbow during golf.

Weaknesses in your mid back and shoulders as well as poor wrist mobility are the typical root causes that Dr. Jimerson addresses. Your elbow is influenced by what happens above and below it.

If your mid back is stiff or weak (if you’ve ever spend a good amount of time sitting at a desk – it is…) and not moving well enough during your swing, the rest of your arm doesn’t get the support that it needs and the elbow can get overworked.

Treating symptoms is one thing, finding the root cause of those symptoms SOLVES the problem

The world of pain relief is filled with marketing and massive amounts of myopic thinking. This chiropractor says “a bone is out of place,” that physical therapy office says “just do this 10 pages of exercises” and often the medical approach is to medicate, inject, or cut – sadly, that’s the world that we live in and unlike this website it’s not all black and white.

The fact is, treating symptoms will never result in permanent relief. It’s like duct taping a leaky ceiling. It might look good for a hot minute, but it doesn’t take that long before you wish you hired a better contractor.

After being in the pain and performance world for 20 plus years, my focus today is providing immediate relief, but also being the detective that leaves no stone unturned of showing you how to keep it that way.

Priscilla Nugent – Physical Therapist

Dr. Jimerson is notorious for rapid relief of injuries and can often relief Golfer’s elbow in seconds using his proprietary pain technique as well as restore range of motion in the mid back and shoulders using the patented scar tissue release method, Active Release Technique.

One of the most common ways to hurt your back is repetitively flexing the spine (bending forward) forward combined with rotation (twisting). Guess what a round of golf consists of? Lots of bending forward and rotating. Every time you swing your golf club, your spine is going through one of it’s most stressful positions. If your spine isn’t prepared for this or you have imbalances across your body… your spine is going to get injured!

Some of the biggest imbalances that lead to back pain is tight hips, mid back and shoulders. This is typically caused from all of the sitting and hunching forward motions that we do during a typical day.

Aside from showing golfers minimal effort, maximum benefit techniques to increase ranges of motion in those tight areas, Dr. Jimerson uses Active Release Technique as well as cutting edge, whole body fascial stretches meant to create massive amounts of range of motion in the muscles in just minutes.

Between walking 18 holes and repetitive twisting, there’s lots of potential for knee injuries. Similar to why the elbow can develop tendonitis during golf, the knee can get overstrained due to poor mobility above and below the joint.

Dr. Jimerson is a master at knee pain and often gets referrals from local Charleston area Orthopedic surgeons trying to avoid surgery on their patients.

Not only does he take away knee pain in moments (even with bone of bone knees) using his proprietary pain technique, he focuses on root cause approach to treating your golf injuries.

It’s these root cause approaches to golf and musculoskeletal injuries that has not only made him a word of mouth sensation for treating pain in the Charleston area but for improving the golf games of countless Charleston and Kiawah golfers.
